Three individuals have been arrested in connection with a major ₹2.66 crore robbery that took place in the city on May 5. The robbery occurred when two employees of Avinandan Forex Pvt Ltd, based on SN Banerjee Road, were traveling in a taxi with the large sum of money, heading to deposit it at the SBI Park Circus branch. At around 11:40 PM, two unknown assailants entered the taxi at Phillips Crossing and directed the driver to a secluded area near Kamardanga. Once there, the robbers seized the cash from the taxi's dickey and fled the scene.
The police quickly acted on the case, arresting three suspects: Sanjib Das (39), Md. Sarfaraz (25), and Riju Hazra (27). Das, a resident of Beleghta, Sarfaraz from Entally, and Hazra from Tangra, were apprehended after investigation. All three were produced before the court and granted police custody till May 19, for further questioning. Authorities are focusing on gathering more evidence and reviewing leads related to the incident.
The police are continuing their investigation into the matter, with authorities exploring the possibility of insider involvement. The suspects' arrest is being seen as a significant step towards resolving the case, as the police work to track down the remaining robbers and recover the stolen cash.
